Traditional Japanese stay, unfortunately quite far from town.

Yes, this place is a bit tired around the edges but it is truly a traditional Onsen. Many outdoor pools both covered and uncovered to choose from. As well as men and women’s individual indoor pools. Excellent view of the falls. And a cavern pool as well. Rooms not the most comfortable but traditional and large. Staff friendly and courteous. Dinner was excellent.

The location of the hotel just next to waterfall which you will have great views and great onset. It need to take bus to the hotel or take their shuttle at Kawazu Station . The only I feel a bit pricy for their dinner charge, so I didn't order. The hotel price include breakfast which just so so . Overall the staffs speak English and we have what we needed. The staff Masaki gave us all the information and email us before we arrive. I will recommend the hotel to my friends.

We arrived around 7 in the evening, and didn't make reservation for dinner. The hotel manager told there were no restaurant or convenient stores around; while we were worrying about being starved for the night, he offered to make some fried rice for our dinner; it was very kind and warm. Traditional Japanese onsen hotel, although a bit old and needs renovation, generally the place is still very neat. Outdoor onsen is excellent as it is right beside the waterfall. The breakfast is a bit too simple though; and the price comes a bit high. Overall it is a good stay.

Tradition Japanese Hotel with Tatami setting, room was spacious, however, there's no bathroom included therefore it is necessary to go to the public bathroom, though it didn't bother us much as we fully utilized the evening and early morning Orsen. Be aware that dinner time at hotel is 5:30, so we were too late to eat-in at hotel. Staff was helpful and showing us other restaurants nearby **those will need around 15-20 mins driving to reach. The highlight for this hotel would be the outdoor Orsen facing the waterfall. The pool are set with different temperature and can spend some time going around and inside the caves too.

We've lived in Japan nearly 4 years and stayed at a few ryokans. They are all older properties, and the condition of the hotels based on price often shocks foreign travelers. This inn was very cozy though, and stood out because of the amenities available: a DVD library with lots of indie flicks and choices in English, extra large yukata for big foreign guests like us, massage chairs in the lobby, games, Shiseido bath products in the public bathing areas, in-room fridge, table tennis and karaoke rooms. We had great views of the forest from our sitting area and the room size was generous. Both chairs and a table by the window and the traditional Japanese floor table and chairs were present, as well as separate toilet and sink areas. Overall it was pretty quiet, none of the paper-thin walls you get in other ryokan. The baths are outstanding, both hot and cold pools by the falls that are mixed gender, including steam caves. The indoor men and women's baths are also fantastic on their own. There is a family bath available to guests on a first come, first served basis. My husband and I had no problems getting in there both nights of our stay around 9pm. We opted for dinner, which at 5,000 yen is a bit pricey, but not extreme. The portions were generous and the food top quality. Heavy on the fish, kaiseki style. Each night consisted of the same structure, different dishes, about 7 courses in total: sashimi platter, starters platter, tempura, nabe, side dish, rice, miso soup, dessert. The downside is the breakfast, which is plated and only Japanese style. I hate eating fish and fermented dishes for breakfast so this was a real bummer. The only other real downside was the slightly "old" smell in the room, maybe a bit of mold somewhere? And all the rooms seem to be optional smoking ones, so when our neighbor started smoking in the hall it did waft in through our door. Very relaxing overall though, and would definitely return.

Very pleasant - I missed the last bus and had to take the train (took over 5hours to get to kawazu station). The hotel send a van to pick me up although it was 940pm in the night. Great service. Really appreciate the effort. I come back almost every year - great place to see the cherry blossoms. Has a waterfall in front of the hotsprings.

Difficult to get to as the bus service is only once per hour after 5pm, taxi is about 3000 yen from station to the hotel, this hotel is all self-service like making your own bed, taking luggages to your room, etc. Poor receptionist, not showing any interest to your need at all nor trying to help. However, the hot springs is fantastic, it has a different type of hot springs, hot springs in a cave, next to waterfall, inside a little hut next to a waterfall, etc.
