It was a really friendly place. There's a nice common lounge with tea and water for people to gather, and the decor is cute - Ghibli store type decor. Admittedly a little loud but overall I enjoyed it. さらに表示

The woman working here is rude and unhelpful. My friend and I checked out before 10am but sat in the lobby to charge our phones, she told us we had to leave because check out time had been and gone. Also there is bar in the lobby of the hostel, when I asked her for a soft drink on the day of checking in, she told me it was closed and that I should walk to the shop if I would like a drink. We stayed 1 night, the Japanese room was clean and comfortable. I woke up around 7am the following morning and because the showers are downstairs I was getting organized to have my shower picked up my clothing and towel. It was very dark and the light switch was not in an obvious location so I was unable to find it. The stairs are VERY steep with one railing and varnished wood, who does that? it makes it almost guaranteed to slip and fall. I fell from the TOP stair all the way down hitting every single step and finally ending at the bottom where my dinted the wall a little. I was horrified and crying. bruised black and blue, injured horribly. I went about my day hired a bicycle to see the shrines nearby and went back to collect my luggage. THEY FORCED ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR TO THE WALL! 10800￥!!! That is just disgraceful! When we returned we saw ANOTHER guest slip down the stairs! They were unreasonable the owner put the entire repair responsibility onto me for repairs when I had seriously injured myself, it really made my stay in Kyoto bitter. さらに表示

Everything was clean and beautiful, bathroom and showers were always spotless, bed is comfortable. The common area is a nice place to sit before or after setting out sightseeing. Good central location too. Will stay here again next time in Kyoto :) さらに表示

You can access the guest house by bus as the most convenient way. However, you can access the subway station even a bit far for walk. If you like walking, there's nijo station you can take JR and Keihan line station not too far. The staffs are very friendly and speak English well. The rooms, beds, toilets and bathrooms are very very clean. The bad points are about small stairs steps that you need to be careful and you need to go downstairs, walk past living room for using toilet and bathroom. However, this is a nice local house if you would like to experience local house. さらに表示

Grateful is a newly furnished, clean and quiet traditional japanese wooden guesthouse. People there are polite and quiet. Some of the staff are mandarine speaking which is a bonus for chinese and taiwanese travellors. Unfortunately, my mandarin is sucked. haha! I had good sleep at night. I rent a bicycle from the host for only 500yen/day. Travelling by bicycle is a wonderful and must do experience in Kyoto. Although Grateful is located northern part of Kyoto, it is easily accessd as the bus stops are only few minutes away from it. Overall, i recommend Grateful for single travellors in budget price. さらに表示

Very nice place with superb helpful staff. We went there for 2 days but they helped us like we were their family since the first day we'd arrived there. The best thing happened in this home-stay is staff, we were really appreciated them so much. Really do recommend this place for travelers who either go for group traveling or solo because there're necessary stuff prepared and the room there is very clean. さらに表示

Fortunately, I only stayed a night at Grateful. Though the place was lovely, and the location was alright (near two bus stops), I found it quite tight, especially the female room. The kitchen was not fully equipped and I couldn't find the washer and dryer so there were probably none? But being a small place was an advantage too because it was so easy to socialize! The place wasn't easy to find because there wasn't a sign board or anything. Just a mail post with small "Grateful" written on it. Wish the beds had curtains too. The owner, Mr. Tooru was very friendly and he speaks English fluently. The weekdays room rate was very cheap! The bedroom, albeit a bit small but the bed was comfy during the cold nights in Kyoto. The toilets and bathrooms were very clean (it is a new hostel). The atmosphere is close to what you get living in a small Japanese house. You can rent a bath towel for 100 yen per day. There's a water heather for making tea and a small microwave to heat your ramen. Very near to convenience store, and 5 minute to a supermarket. If I have to pick some cons is that; The hostel does have a small flimsy locker, but I carry my valuables everywhere I go. It is about 8 minute walk from the subway station and further more for JR station but the bus station is quite close so use the bus if you arrive from Kyoto station (Only 230 yen!) No TV. But this doesn't bother me at all. Overall the hotel is worth it, for a solo backpacker like me. It is very convenient if you travel around Kyoto via bus. (Only 500 yen for day pass) さらに表示

Not a bad place for the money, but its a good 20mins from main attractions like Gion or Philosphers Path. There are no curtains on the racks and no locks to store your stuff. The common area was not used for socialization but everyone was on their own plan which is fine. Shampoo, conditioner and soap are easily avaliable. The place has an old house feel to it which was very cool. The manager met me and helped me find the place and was very friendly. My stay here was short, but it was so relaxing! The owner was very nice and welcoming. It's really clean and the guesthouse is new. The bed was comfortable and I liked the communal space. Although it's far from the main Kyoto area, the comfort and cleanliness is worth it! It's next to Nijo castle and there's a Lawson and supermarket nearby. I'll definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Kyoto. Thank you!! さらに表示

Very comfortable beds. The design/layout is aunthentic to Kyoto/Japan, particularly with the wood finishings throughout the place. It was a place I loved coming back to after long days of being a tourist! The staff were very friendly and kind and made me feel welcome. Location was good. さらに表示
