I spent two nights here and would highly recommend it. It's not a ritzy place by any means—the rooms are basic, and most guests are businessmen or manual laborers who don't expect anything fancy. But the front desk employees were just so kind and helpful that I felt at home the second I arrived. The hotel is much like Itoigawa—it's not a glamorous town, but it's really friendly and full of many surprising, funky little places (izakaya, clubs, restaurants, shrines, temples, old shops) if you just take the trouble to look.
