The location was so beautiful. The monkeys were everywhere even though it was the off season. I was treated to an amazing dinner and breakfast. Everything was very authentic. The meal was prepared with ingredients gathered from the area, and I was amazed by how good it all tasted. The room was very traditional, and made me feel like I was in another time. The building is very old and has been in the owners family since 1864. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a traditional Japanese night stay. I love camping and staying in cabins, so the accommodations didn’t bother me at all. Some of the reviews were unfavorable, and If you need a super modern, perfectly clean, private bathroom and shower, this is probably not for you. But if you’re that picky you are not enjoying everything this wonderful place has to offer.

The ryokan is close to the snow monkey park. We had excellent japanese diner and breakfast, which was handmade and very carefully prepared. The ryokan is in a dirty condition. There are no showers, also not at the onsen.

The stay at Korakukan was pretty much what you can expect. Its a cozy Ryokan up in the Mountains, only reachable by feet in winter. And that kind of "adventure" was why i wanted to book it. Bathing in an outdoor onsen high up in the snow covered mountains , with monkeys all around you and even in the same tub with you ! Ofcourse keep in mind that the snow monkey park is exactly oposite the Ryokan and is highly frequented espacially on the weekends. A lot of people come by the path to the Snow Monkey Park during the opening hours. But as soon as the park closes at afternoon your all alone with the other guests and the friendly hosts. It was amazing to "escape" your daily routine for a night and spent a night with onsen, extraordinary delicious food and a game Go in the evening. Hope i can visit again sometime !

Big Onsen where the Monkey's are most of the time, are open for men from 3 to 6 PM during day light hours . Dinner is at 6pm. Ladies can go in the same onsen from 7p to 8p. It was dark then and difficult to see the Monkey's . Not very enjoyable at all . The resort doesn't say anything about the reason that men have more time and also in daylight and women go in the dark, except I think the men only are allowed at this time because they can be seen by the people on the trail . The people on the trail take picture. So women should be allowed to go in during daylight and just get in and out with their bums facing the trail. Problem solved. I live in USA. I am not sure when I will return. This was the highlight of my trip. The owners and staff are really nice.

This was a unique experience which we enjoyed. I think the hotel and Agoda travel should have given more information regarding the location. When I tried calling the hotel about how to get there ( not knowing it was by foot only) they didn’t answer and I was on hold a long time with Agoda travel just to hear “ there’s no way to get there except to walk. We are good with walking but weren’t properly prepared since we weren’t informed ahead of time. さらに表示

The owners are very friendly, the food was great, the location was perfect, learning Go Game after dinner was nice; the inside onsen seemed a bit too hot but outside is nice and double up on the futons if you prefer softer beds. All in all, a very nice stay. We would recommend it and do it again.

My wife and I traveled to the Jigokudani monkey park late on a summer afternoon. We arrived shortly before sunset and were pleasantly surprised to find this Onsen right outside the gate of the monkey park. That's where the adventure began. A few notes about this hotel: *It's very old. *The owners are incredibly kind and generous. *You will have an authentic onsen experience. *Monkeys will drop by to visit throughout your stay. *The meals are prepared and served by the couple, and very delicious. *Be prepared to sleep on the floor in a room with Japanese paper walls. *The building is not suitable for people with mobility problems; tall people will frequently need to duck their heads. The takeaway? Amazing! Simply incredible! I see some negative reviews, and there's a common trend: for individuals wanting a contemporary hotel with modern conveniences, this is not for you! If you're up for adventure, this Onsen ends up being as fun and interesting as the monkey park!

The room we had was big and comfortable (with adequate heating and plenty of monkey views), the meals were very tasty, the hosts are wonderfully warm and friendly, not to mention helpful (we learned to play 'go' from Mie too, recommended!). This is a very relaxed place, befitting of a stay so close to nature. We loved all the onsens, inside and out, though some parts could probably do with a little fix up...to us, it's all a part of the charm - we were there for the remoteness, monkeys and warm hospitality, which we received in abundance! I can highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for the same.

This is a must stay place! The hosts/owners are wonderful, kind, and make every attempt to make your stay here amazing. The food is fantastic and unique, the house old but filled with history and charm, the monkey are all over the place, and the onsen feels so refreshing. Be sure to learn how to play Go if you stop by! And even if you decide not to stay here, stop in for lunch and an afternoon soak. You don’t want to miss this place!

We had quite an experience at this Ryoken. It is a family run inn, who's hosts are fifth generation. We walked for about 1.5 miles, 1 mile of which was a beautiful and snowy trail to get there at around 5 pm. Even though the hosts expect you to check in before 6, I doubt they would turn you away if late. The building is a rickety maze of joined rooms on the side of a hill. It has it's charms, including old rooms, a ping pong room, history and the hosts. The room we had was comfortable and sufficiently heated. Some common areas like the bathroom, hallway, communal sink were cold and run down, but the dining area and "lobby" were warm and comfortable. The best room in the Ryoken is the Go Room. It is beautiful and cozy! Mie, the hostess, is understandably proud and will likely take this success to other areas of the Ryoken. Monkeys visited around 7am and were everywhere, including the co-ed onsen . I saw a couple of bathers with bathing suits (no big deal). Worth it for us.

Pros: 1. Being in the onsen with wild snow monkeys - it’s your wildest dreams come true. 2. Substantial breakfast and dinner. Cons: Everything else. 1. Rundown ryokan with wobbly stairs. I fell while walking down the stairs to the onsen and have a big bruise on my right hip. Please be very careful when climbing up and down the stairs. 2. Inconvenient location. We came with a rental car. No clear parking space indicated (even by the email they sent). 1.6km from entry point. Pack lightly and come at daytime. We made the mistake in coming at 6pm when it was dark. Dangerous and scary to walk to the ryokan, dragging small luggage and our 1 year old daughter. 3. You need to pay extra for fuel used for heater in the room. A small thing but not mentioned in the booking. We came in winter (-6 degree Celsius) with a baby so we used a lot of fuel. Stayed two nights Feb ‘18.

It's a great and rare experience to bath with Snowy monkeys in the Onsen as this is the only hotel located at the park. Enjoy nature!

Bad Experience, We had arrived at 17.00 when already sunset. OMG very hard to find the place as there was no light and sign. GPS lead us to parking area then we call to the hotel, Exactly location was 600 meters away (climb up to mountain in darkness) Waking in darkness with 2 Years kids in minus degree climate, cannot carried suitcase, so we wear the same cloth for tomorrow. The worst thing is, Toilet was very dirty, Smelly OMG ...Unbelievable, this is JAPAN ....everything was old, poor, and dusty. It is not worth for about 220 usd/night !!!!!!!!! We are only 1 family for that night as It was Saturday!!!!!for the meal, dinner was OK but. Breakfast just salad + rice+1egg+soup.

It's not luxe. Barebones rooms. Shared bathrooms. And you have to walk 30 minutes to get to it... But if you're going to Snow Monkey Park, you have to walk those 30 minutes anyway. And not only do you get to stay right next to the park's entrance, you have snow monkeys EVERYWHERE. When we stayed, they were on the roof outside our room. Skipping outside the dinner room. And, most wonderfully, in the outdoor hot tub. We must have seen at least 50 come and go while we were in the hot tub. It was wild. And amazing. The staff is great. The food is good. And... the monkeys!

Wow, if you are open up for an adventure and want a real authentic Japanese experience with a twist you cannot get any better than this. It's an adventure and an incredible experience getting to the hotel which sets the mood for the rest of the adventure. Your evening will be in a rustic mansion with traditional yummy food followed by a dip in the natural hot springs Snow Monkeys are everywhere including the onsen and the food is excellent. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience

It is an unforgettable journey to stay in Korakukan. It was a good experience to walk to Korakukan in heavy snow weather. The boss Katasuyoshi Takefushi and his wife are happy people. They let us try their treasure: snake wine and Panax Ginseng wine. On the other hand, it is the only place you can enjoy the outdoor onsen with Monkeys. I really want to stay in here again shortly.

Loved the old traditional feel of the place and the location is phenomenal. Getting to bath with the monkeys in the morning is an amazing experience. Friendly staff and very laid back ryokan. It's old but that's what I was looking for.

From the moment I saw the ryokan, perched on a hill, at trail's end, I knew this was something special. Timeless beauty abounds, a great outdoor onsen next to a stream by a waterfall. Great food, wonderful staff, and even a lesson in Go. A truly tranquil spot for a refresh and recharge. Add in unparalleled access to monkey park, and this is a true destination to be visited again and again. I know I'll be back さらに表示
