Location is excellent and great place to experience a traditional ryokan. Staff were ever so friendly and despite our large family size they made our dining experience truly memorable. Only drawback is the age of the hotel which is reflected in the rooms. さらに表示

I have been to Japan four times and out of the many accommodations I have been to. This is the prime example of Japanese hospitality. You are served a cup of hot tea, local matcha chocolate and cheese cake once you arrive. They are always thanking you for everything and bowing to you with much respect and courtesy. Every single staff is polite and makes you feel at home. We had the in-room dinner and breakfast option. Dinner was quite good but we loved the breakfast! Nonetheless, there are so many dishes that you feel like a king for the day. Room is spacious and clean. You also have the option to bathe in the onsen located in the basement which looks new compared to many of the other onsens that I have been to. The staff always greets you when you are leaving or coming back to the hotel which makes it a very pleasant experience. They also give you green tea leaves and amenities kit for you to bring home as a souvenir. All in all, it was a memorable stay in Kyoto. さらに表示

Great location - walking distance from Gion, and very very close to Nishiki Market. The staff was wonderful, and I highly recommend booking a meal from them on your stay. The bath in the basement was so easy to use and so relaxing. My only complaint is I wish I had a view from my window. さらに表示

My friend and I stayed for one night at Matsui Honkan. It was the highlight of our trip in Kyoto! The location is spot on. Staffs are just so polite and very helpful. We stayed at the Matsu room and It was just amazing. Delicious Japanese dinner and brekfast. We have nothing bad to say about this ryokan. Worth every penny. さらに表示

Matsui Honkan is located very near to the shopping district which also connected to the Nishiki Fish Market. The honkan experience is very nice where we were serve with the tatami at our arrival and in the morning they will clean up the tatami and serve you with the full set of Japanese or American style breakfast which is very fantastic.The access to this place however is not that good as we need to walk about 10 minutes to the nearest bus station or train station, but the walk to get there was a fun one as you will pass by the shopping district near the nishiki market さらに表示

Next to no English spoken. A grumpy old fella at the front desk and about 4 Japanese channels on the tv. After a long day I want a glass of wine and watch the news. The matresses on the floor were a pain. Literally. The Japanese don't mind the., but if your western . Stick to a bed. You've been warned. さらに表示
