this guesthouse is the epitome of classic japanese house - tatami room, hot spring (open air, which is a welcoming bonus as you can stargaze while bathing). The surrounding was calm and serene, and you can actually view the milky way just beside the guest house. The family was very welcoming and ensure that everything checks out. Bus stop is just a minute walk across the road for bus going to and from Shinshimashima. A walk to Norikura Tourist Centre is around 30 mins uphill.
However, google translate will be a great help if you dont know some basic japanese. However, the older son speaks good english but he was not around all the time. Still great though, because this is one of the challenges of travelling abroad. Mind you, the walls are thin so be mindful of other people. さらに表示

This Ryokan may be a bit old, but it's well maintained and clean. An old lady welcomed us by not saying much, but we could understand her. We enjoyed the Onsen very much, morning in the summer is still chilling. Simple Japanese breakfast also made our day. I love the chilling weather in summer, I love the peacefulness in this area. A restaurant nearby, offering super size yummy western food with reasonable price. I hope I can come back again, stay for 1 week or more, doing nothing but Onsen and Onsen. さらに表示
