A fantastic experience and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. We pre-ordered vegetarian and the food was outstanding and plentiful. The service and introduction to the different courses was really helpful. The traditional room with a private bath and courtyard was worth the extra cost. We also used the the private bath as a couple. The bus stop being placed near Family mart was a good marker to get off and on the bus. An experience we will always treasure.

My husband and i had a very good time in this ryokan. it is clean, strategically positioned near to bus stop and to a few museums, one of it being the little prince museum. The staffs were very hospitable and friendly, made us feel very welcomed into this ryokan. they were very attentive to all our needs, and the kaiseki served were awesome! we highly recommanded this place if you are looking for a ryokan in Hakone!

Best time of my life in this hotel. The people are so nice. The food is soooo delicious. and the private hot spring, oh my gosh, it is amazing. The bed does get a little uncomfortable only because it is on the floor. I would stay here again next time i visit Japan.

we went there for the private onsen as for our 2nd anniversary, everything was alsmost perfect. except that the wifi was not working, that i wanted a massage at 9:30pm after a long and tiring walking day but they said that " sorry closed" whereas on the brochure, they said that it closed at midnight.. we had a very nice diner in the room ( 10 courses without any meats) and a nice breakfast too. Well i still recommend that hotel for friends.

When we first arrive, we were surprised to found that someone already waiting for us the second we walk in their front door. They led us to a waiting room with a gorgeous mini garden view and gave us matcha and traditional red bean cake while they processed our check in. In a minute they gave us a small tour to where the onsens are. They have a big one which can be booked for private use. And another 2, one for female and another for male. It's a small ryokan, I believe it's a family own so everything is so traditional. They only have 8 rooms in total. 4 located upstairs and another 4 located downstairs complete with a traditional garden, outdoor shower and the best part is our own private onsen! We also book for in room dining where a staff attending us during the whole time. It was a 7/8 course meal. We love the fact that everything is so simple that we can taste the high quality ingredients they use and how carefully they prepared each and every meal. There's not many meat but even my steak loving husband loved everything. It was simply one of the best meal I ever experience if not the best.

Right from the beginning, when we were welcomed by the incredibly friendly staff with delicious matcha and a traditional Japanese sweet, we knew that we were in for a special experience at Rikyuan. We had booked the traditional Japanese room with the personal onsen, which was a little pricey, but definitely worth it. The Kaiseki multi-course dinner was perhaps the highlight of our stay. Later, we reserved the private onsen (which, as we would later find out, actually cost a small fee), and bathing in hot spring bath under the night sky was a special experience. The traditional Japanese breakfast the next morning was at least as tasty and filling as the Kaiseki dinner itself. If there was one flaw, then it would be that some of the onsen facilities, especially the wooden support around the baths, were in need of repairs. Other than that, we had a truly authentic stay at Rikyuan, the clear highlight of our Hakone trip, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

For my first trip to Japan I knew I had to do the touristy stuff. But I decided to throw in a Ryokan so I can at least experience something more traditional and to get off the beaten path. I was so pleased that I found the Rikyuan! Everything about this place exceeded my expectations! Both the private and public onsens were amazing! They are outdoors. We were in the onsen during snow fall and being in hot natural springs water with cold air above was remarkable. The food is traditional and were items specially selected from the season. The kaiseki dinner was abundant! Our host was very gracious too. Our room was the traditional Japanese room with tatami mats to sit on and futons to sleep in. There is a zen room to sip tea or coffee in. My friend and I faced a dilemma upon check out. Snow fall was increasing and getting out looked bleak. As for the other patrons that had cars, staff was diligently placing chains around their tires. Staff helped us too, beyond words!

The staff at Rikyuan were incredibly friendly and accommodating, even prepared special vegetarian meals for us! Special thanks to Koga-san who was great to chat with! The ryokan itself is very cosy and stylish, the two private onsen are amazing. It’s just a minute walk to the bus stop and the convenient store with the bus taking you to Lake Ashi in about 15 minutes. The only drawback is that it’s quite pricey but we had a very lovely time here and would return again for sure.

Takes about 35 minutes by bus from Hakone Yumoto. Greeted by very friendly staff that can speak and understand English. Welcome tea and sweets. Quick tour of the place before showing us to our room. Our stay includes dinner and breakfast so we have a bigger room with a dining table for our dinner. Clean and spacious, has everything you need like toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, brush, qtip, hair tie, etc. Heated toilet seat with bidet. The private onsen is spacious for 2 people. Very nice and relaxing atmosphere. Public onsen is separate for men and women. The staff is very helpful and friendly, always smiling. Kobayashi served us our dinner and he did the most excellent job in doing it. We would definitely recommend it and come back to this ryokan again.

Godd location to go to the lake, and from there join the different points of interest. However, this was far from the city center, so this rather to enjoy a quite evening and not to go out. The diner was amazing, it really makes the difference regarding the price

Came here as a stop for a day after Tokyo. The staff was amazing! Very friendly and was able to communicate with us in English fairly well. Very clean. Loved that we can book a private time in the baths for free. Only con is the location -- it's about a 30 min bus ride from the hakone station. But it's a 2-3 min walk from bus stop

We booked a room with private onsen which was fantastic and very relaxing. I love the fact that we could use the onsen whenever suits us rather than having to book. The location was a bit further from the main tourist stay area near hakone yumoto station but closer to lake ashi and gotemba, its in the middle.

Traditional Japanese room well stocked with terry cloth bath robes, Japanese clothing, and, clove-smelling socks! Private en-suite onset was worth the extra cost. Outside Japanese garden courtyard had a sunlight-sensitive light that automatically turns off in daylight and on during nighttime. This light did not have a switch to manually turn off, this was distracting when we woke up at 03:00 am thinking it was daybreak. Hopefully staff can turn off if required or window shades provided to darken room more than paper Japanese windows can do. Enjoyed the traditional Japanese cuisine and the friendly staff. leaving our car parked at the hotel saved us parking fees at the local attractions and museums.

I have been to Japan for many times, this is my best Japanese style hotel ever. You can take Trozan bus (I bough Hagone pass that can be use unlimit trip) Daigatake bus stop and walk abous 30 meters to a narrow road (back if you headge to Togendai) then turn left and you will find the hotel on the right. I got excellence service from the first step to checkout. The floor was build with Katama (Treditional Japanese style) and you have are many choices in hotspring bath from your own room, private outdoor (reserve before and 40 mis per session) and public. The full course delicious dinner with 9 sets were served to your room. The excellence breakfast was arranged in the morning.
