As I write this review, I have already booked my second stay. That says a lot about how wonderful our time here was.
This is exactly the kind of place where you need to be if you want to genuinely relax (and not with the typical spa town vibes), away from crowds, noise and the speed of day to day city life.
Time literally slows down here.
Sky Tea House is a beautiful old house, renovated with all the necessary facilities, where you can shut yourself out from the world underneath a magnificent starry sky.
Unfortunately we couldn’t meet the owner Jiro-san, but Rhum and his cats were extremely welcoming. We could arrange a bonfire for a small fee, use fresh ingredients to cook our meals (and chip in money for what we used), as well as buy souvenirs like organic soaps and green tea. Fresh mountain water and rice included! It really is a complete experience.
Reiganji Temple is very close and we were able to hike up to a gorgeous view right before the sunset. The green tea fields are also beautiful to see in the morning, and you can drive to Hoshinomura Village or Kurogi-machi within 30-40 minutes from here.
The drive up the mountain is a bit challenging so I highly recommend arriving quite ahead of sundown. The family room is very spacious and the private balcony is really great to chill. The dormitory is also cozy (we tried both room types) and there is a kotatsu room where everyone gathers to read, work, eat and just chat by the fireplace.
I think it was the best trip I have had so far, and also one of the most romantic ones as well. However if you do not like the countryside, it might not be a good match. The charm of Sky Tea House is it’s authenticity, quiet beauty and hospitality. My husband and I are going back as much as we can, every other month. I stayed just one night in this unique place and I could easily stay much longer to explore the beautiful nature or just to relax and enjoy the calm and peaceful place. It is an old Japanese house with spacious rooms and an amazing view over the nearby mountains. It is a very quiet and peaceful place. If you need to relax for a while then this is the place for you. I arrived by bicycle and it is not an easy climb but once you are there you forget all the effort you had before.
I would definitely go there again and stay a bit longer than just one night. The couple that is running that place is very friendly and welcoming!

An old place with japanese traditional rooms at the top of the mountain. The view and fresh air around the place was very impressive although you need a car to reach there. Jiro was kind. If you expect modern hotel facilities, do not select this place. If you enjoy nature, I recommend. さらに表示
