The best experience in Kyoto, staff woman is so friendly and warm, even when her English is limited she makes you feel welcome and will help you in everything you need. Room was so big and extremely comfortable, we really didn't want to leave Kyoto. Love it ! さらに表示

Location: Incredible — right in the heart of the quiet, quaint historic Gion district in Kyoto. A four minute walk across the bridge to the bus stop to/from Kyoto Station (which is only an 8 minute bus ride away!). The various metro stations nearby are only a 5-15 minute walk away, too, depending on which one you need to go to. Fushimi Inari was only ten minutes away! Arashiyama was much farther, but within reach of bus + metro transfers. There are lots of yummy restaurants around, and a 7/11 and a Lawson are also in short walking distance. We were very lucky to see giggling maiko/elegant geiko walking around the alley of the ryokan and one alley over. It was such an honor to see!! Accommodation: Tamie-san was a phenomenal host. It felt like we were visiting an old friend’s home, as she was extremely hospitable and kind. She offered hot matcha and snacks and gave us a plethora of tips/advice on our Kyoto itinerary. The ryokan itself was very warm and cozy and beautifully decorated. There were four rooms in the main guesthouse with two bathrooms on the second floor and a shower room on the first. She gave us each a towel and slippers to use around the ryokan, and had a toothbrush and mouthwash for use in the sink area. The shower room had bath soap and shampoo and heater, too. The tatamis/futons were great and the blanket was soooo lovely. It was clean, well-managed and the perfect place of rest during two rainy, cold December days. Even though the floors were rickety with each step, it was a great honor to experience. I would highly recommend this casual, cozy ryokan for its significant value of ambience and experience. さらに表示

Tanaka-san was very welcoming and efficient. The facilities were very clean, comfortable, and classically Japanese. The area we stayed in was a great location and in a beautiful side street. I would gladly stay here every time I come to Kyoto. The value for my money is top notch. I highly recommend. さらに表示

Loved the traditional rooms with all the modern comforts. The hostess was spectacular. We were able to check in early and were greeted with tea and snacks. The rooms were gracious and clean and there were multiple bathrooms facilities so sharing was no issue. The location in the gion district was amazing and in close walking distance to many sights and the subway to explore other areas of the city. It was not hard to find as many other reviews suggest. Prior to check in the owner provided detailed information in English and Japanese to find the hotel. The directs were clear and very helpful. We took a taxi from Kyoto station and the driver found the place quickly and easily and cost was less than 1000 yen. There is also a subway nearby and many buses which was very convenient. さらに表示

One thing to be aware of, when you leave every day you need to turn off the air conditioning to your room. This means it gets very hot in the room and takes an hour or so to cool down if the weather is very hot. Otherwise the lady who runs the place is very nice. We had free water bottles each day and a fruit bowl when we got back our first day. さらに表示

Totally enjoyed our stay. This is a great traditional area. And a wonderful traditional home. Many places put up photos of rooms that look traditional, but they are not. The guest houses in this area all appear to be genuine traditional homes.. Our hostess was absolutely wonderful. Had a surprise punnet of strawberries for us when we got home after a long first day out. What a treat. There is coffee /tea facilities just outside the room. The futon beds were wonderful and the fluffy comforters ever so warm. The facilties are shared, but are very clean and well maintained. No issues at all there. The location is fantastic. We were located smack in the middle of the geisha district. We saw maiko (geishas in training) going to their lessons, as well as geikos in the evenings. 5 in total during our 2 night 3 day stay. Highly recommended for those looking for a true ryokan experience. (not the snazzy posh ones) Do note that there are stairs, so for those unable to manage flights of stairs, this accommodation may not be suitable. さらに表示

I have been thinking about whether to tout the kind hostess Mrs. Yamike...other people may be disappointed not to get so much one on one time, help, advice, and strawberries from this delightful lady. It made us feel like we were with a host family but with full privacy. The room is spotless, the bathroom (separate from the shower room) is shared but spotless. The heater was great and the decorations brought you back to a time.... It was a wonderful experience. Please stay here! さらに表示

Very nice area to stay. We stayed here for 3 nights and saw Maiko every time we went back or forth. A little bit longer walk to subway stations (bus station is nearer) but it's nice enough to walk :) The owner is so kind. She even prepared the 2,000Y notes when returning the key deposit for us - it is lucky money in Japan. The house is old, so please be careful when you walk around the house, if not your steps will cause some sounds. Among 3 rooms we stay, Sakura room seems to have the smallest space but the most quiet as no sound when people are walking by. さらに表示

We travelled with a kid and stayed in Tanaka-ya Inn for six nights. We enjoyed the stay in the tatami bedroom. The room and shared bathrooms were very clean. Tami-san really helped to make us feel at home. There is a wide range of breakfast options close to the inn. Many of Kyoto's attractions are within walking distance. If you walk out of the door there is a big chance you'll walk into someones picture, because the inn is located in a very cosy and pittoresque alley. さらに表示

Charming hostess Tamie gave us welcome drinks and snacks. On our 2nd night she left strawberries in our room. She was very helpful in providing a local map and pointing out areas of interest like where the good and cheap sushi trains are located and where to spot geishas. The room was very coz furnished in a traditional way. The only downside is it is a bit of walking distance from the main streets and the stations and can be struggle to find at first. But overall it was a very amiable stay. さらに表示

Staying in this small facitility located in heart of historic part of Kyoto was great. We were provided with unforgetable hospitality and we could experience Japan as it was long time ago on traditional tatami and with related furniture. I can warmly recommend to everybody who wants to experience traditional Japan. I was just little bit dissappointed to pay additional 1000yen for our child (17 months) per night. I haven´t experienced anything like this in other countries. さらに表示

This ryokan is in Gion right at the street where the geiko and maiko would appear around late afternoon (and indeed we did see 3 of them right after checking in!). The room and common area were all nice and clean too. The owner was so friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place for an affordable stay in Gion. さらに表示

We had booked two rooms and due to off-season, we did not have any other guests during our stay. This guest house has no attached toilet/bath-room. We were put up at Annex building which is about two blocks away. All rooms are clean and a/c works just fine. さらに表示

We stayed here two nights while traveling though Kyoto. This is a traditional guest house in the historical Gion district. It is close to the subway, bike rental, the river, sites and restaurants. The owner is very warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. She is keen to answer any questions you may have and point you in the right direction. My partner left his phone there when we left the ryokan and she notified agoda who got in contact with me before he even realised it was missing! We very much enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommended! さらに表示

A great place to stay in the old town in Kyoto. Owner was lovely and only 4 rooms, so she gets to know you and gives great advice. Would stay here again if I was to return. Will be recommending to friends. さらに表示

I actually ended up cancelling my Nara hotel because of this, decided to just stay here and soak in a day more of this atmosphere. A perfect place to stay, just 20 meters away from the main Maiko / Geiko street where you can spot them walking around doing their errands during the day. さらに表示

Loved our stay at Tanaka-ya! Great location in a very traditional neighborhood, but also very close to walk to main shopping areas, temples, restaurants. Rooms were spacious and traditional futons were comfortable. Even though it was a shared bathroom, we never saw anyone else using it. Comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. さらに表示

There are only 4 rooms, so availability is hard to come by. That's the only down side. Everything else is EXCELLENT. The host speaks very good English, the tatami rooms are very authentic, everything is in good repair, there are two bathrooms for the four rooms. I couldn't be happier having stayed there. さらに表示
