Staff were attentive from the beginning until the end! The premise itself may be a bit dated but I think that is part of the charm. Amenities provided are close to 4-star hotel tbh. Location-wise, it’s in between Gojo and Kyoto station and other major attractions like Kyoto tower and also Higashi-Hoganji Temple. The omakase dinner was an amazing experience with the owner himself preparing the meals for us. The staff will introduce each meal to you so that you’d know what you are eating and how they were carefully prepared. My only regret was that I checked in quite late in the day so I didn’t really get to enjoy the ryokan and the experience it could offer at its fullest :( さらに表示

We love how traditional the ryokan is - it is now in its 6th generation. We stayed in Xi room and we love how big and spacious the room is. Although there is no bath in the room (there is toilet and wash basin); the are 3 common bath area with hot tub that is more than sufficient for guests use, since not all guests will happen to need to bathe at the same time. Kaiseki meal was wonderful and prepared with the freshest seasonal ingredients the chef could find in the Nishiki market. Breakfast was also a highlight which many pickled small dishes. On level 1, there's a sitting area where you can stare and admire the beautiful manicured garden. Location is a short walk from Kyoto Station, however you are a stone throw from Higashi-Honganji Temple (one of the largest temples in Kyoto). STAY HERE - It's one of the best value Traditional Ryokan which serves Kaiseki Meal. さらに表示

We stayed one night in the ryokan with dinner and breakfast included. Amazing experience. Lovely staff. Watching the chef meticulously prepare our meal was the cherry on top. さらに表示

It was not clear about shared bathrooms so that was not so great. I liked it because I enjoy anything Japanese but for those who do not want to embrace Japanese culture then this is not the place for you. さらに表示

Our second time Ryokan but this doesnt have ensuite bathroom. I was shocked when i know this only when there. I admit im very particular and not keen in shared bathroom however this is how it is. I would suggest agoda/hotel post clearly in the room deal. The “shared bathroom” was not specifically stated in the room deal which made me mistook the shared bathroom as part of the hotel but not for all rooms. Overall good experience and very nice vegetarian breakfast. For the vegetarian dinner that we paid outside of the room deal, their dishes are disappointing. さらに表示

Kyo Kaiseki by the chef and owner is superb! We reserved earlier for a counter seating for 4pax. The chef spoke about the food and his family history of the ryokan in Japanese translated to English by one of his staff. Fish roe in the starter was sublime! The monk fish was delicious too. There was a long list of food but these two items standout in my mind. The ryokan is very comfortable and intimate even though it is in the city area. You will be taken to a traditional setting with new amenities once you enter the ryokan. Don’t worry about outside setting. We stay in a Zui room. 4 mattress on tatami not futon with a small table sitting area for four. The WC attached was very convenient. We used the shared family bathroom with ofuro outside the room for bathing. There were also two single bathrooms. The bigger one had a really great view of the garden from the ofuro. We also changed into the yukata provided by the Ryokan for dinner wear. Gave us the authentic feel. Arrange for at least one whole day dedicated to enjoying and relaxing in the Ryokan. Also order the Kaiseki dinner as part of the whole traditional experience of ryokan stay. The breakfast we ordered was the Japanese option. It was served in the living eating area on first floor opposite our room. We had the option to have breakfast at the counter area too. Our room type did not have the option of serving breakfast in the room which we preferred. You can check with the ryokan about that option. We wish the chef/owner and family to continue this ryokan for many more generations! さらに表示

This was a fun "traditional" experience. Don't come looking for a modern place - this is intentionally rustic, albeit well maintained. I believe they have added things like WiFi, etc, to keep up with the usual needs of travelers. The dinner experience was excellent, including the onsen. Location is pretty good too - not that far a walk from Kyoto station. Neighborhood is pretty quiet as well, and not too far from various attractions. Would recommend for someone looking for the "traditional" experience. さらに表示

It is clean, yukata can only be worn in compound. Bathrooms are shared. Rooms have individual toilet. There is no boiler but they provide a hot flask. It is about 10 mins walk from kyoto Station. さらに表示

Amazing experience in this 180-year-old house which is kept in good condition. Place is nicely modernized with in room toilet and sink. Shared bathroom is clean and always available when we need it. Highlight is dinner with the chef owner. Truly delicious food and a very pleasant experience especially when you sit at the chef counter. さらに表示

Izuyasu is the first ryokan I have been to and it has set high standards for the next ryokan I’m going to visit. From the first day to the last day, the stay was comfortable and exceeding my expectations. Staff was friendly, helpful and really observant to details. Service we have received was one that I will never forget. Location was superb as well as it takes about 10 mins walk from Kyoto station if exiting from JR central exit. Would definitely recommend it to someone who wants to experience staying in a ryokan but do not want to break your bank for it. I am looking forward to returning back for a stay. さらに表示

It is walkable distance from Kyoto Station. Attentive staff and it was amazing to know that the current owner is the 7th generation in his family to continue running the Ryokan. The traditional dinner was good too, though we didn’t know it could not be served at our room but at the dining hall counter seat. But it’s ok too since we get to see the chef’s work put into our food. The onsen rooms, though only 3 for the whole place, were very nice. During our stay, we did not have to queue for it. I think it is a good experience overall to have a feel of staying in the traditional accommodation while not needing to break the bank for it. さらに表示

Staff and service was excellent. Highly recommend the Kaiseki course meal. Much of our meal was prepared in front of us by the owner of the inn which was added to our great experience here. さらに表示

It was our first experience in a ryokan and we loved it. The location was good - it was close to the train station and the staff were a highlight. The dinner we had was very special and our room and the onsen was spectacular. さらに表示

I am a Japanese who emigrated to the US in 1986, so I know what to expect from hotels/inns at various price points. A quality traditional ryokan (Japanese inn) tends to be pricey regardless of location. Izuyasu is in Kyoto, and if one wishes to experience the real thing in Kyoto, it doesn’t come at a bargain price. Visitors need to keep that in mind when deciding where to stay in Kyoto. Izuyasu is run by a 7th generation owner and his family and they have kept the business going for 180 years. In my opinion, the food is real, service impeccable and amenities are as good as it gets in a 180 year old inn. I stayed at Izuyasu with a 14 year old and everything was PERFECT. If you are looking for a bargain, there are plenty of cheaper hotels and even more inexpensive hostels. But if you want the REAL Kyoto experience, don’t hesitate to book at Izuyasu. さらに表示
