actually it's a little far towards metro or other sightseeing places, but it's ok to stay in a quiet and local neighbourhood. you will find some good izakayas nearby. the host is very warm hearted, though you have to obey their rules - that's fair enough because that's their precious and beautiful house! Context / Background: - Booked 3 day visit during the Gion Matsuri - Run by an elderly couple that speak English - 10 minutes by cab from downtown (US$12.00 taxi ride) - Great access to buses (30 second walk) and subway (5 min walk) to anywhere in Kyoto; buses/bikes/taxis are the optimal transportation method to any site worth visiting in Kyoto - Bath house/showers close at 11 PM Must do: - Get the breakfast - Experience the traditional Japanese experience of sleeping on tatami mats - Experience traditional Japanese bath house experience; note that showers are available and you get an entire bath house as a couple as oppose to sharing with strangers さらに表示

We absolutely loved it here! We stayed for two nights. The couple running the hotel were so cute and sweet! They were really helpful as soon as we arrived through the beautiful garden entryway. As for the facilities, the washroom is shared as well as the shower room. The shower room closes at 11 pm and the owners request that you follow the times and tell them when you want to take a shower. Since there are a few other guests staying at the hotel the shower room rules make sense. It wasn't a problem for us. The whole house was beautiful and the small Japanese style room we got was amazing! An experience we'll never forget. <3 さらに表示

This is my first time lodging in a Japanese Ryokan. I do not know what to expect, but this place is eerily quiet and the owner was very particular when I want to use the Japanese bathroom for whatever reasons. The lavatory is surprisingly small. It is probably an experience of a lifetime to see a zen garden inside the Japanese house. I would prefer if they can provide some Japanese kaiseki in the room for breakfast and dinner. Location is not close to station. If you have a car, its not a problem. Hotel is beautiful, & operate by a couple.They can speak Fluently english. Communication is not a problem. You have to pay attention in toilet & bathroom. Its not inside your room. It's public & shower need to make a appointment first. さらに表示
